MARSHALL, Texas — Wiley University is thrilled to announce the launch of The Heman Sweatt Honors College for fall 2024. This new academic initiative is dedicated to creating a learning community that integrates academic pursuits, leadership development, and experiential learning for academically successful students.

Students with a 3.75 g.p.a or higher who are interested in engaging in a highly interactive learning environment are encouraged to apply for this highly selective program. Students will benefit from selection to this dynamic learning environment through: access to the honors living community; an academic scholarship; innovative, technology-designed classes; faculty-in-residence mentorship; funding for up to three summer internships, entry into the summer undergraduate research project; and scholarship for study abroad experiences in their junior year.

Ms. Morgan King, the Director of the emerging Heman Sweatt Honors College, expressed her excitement about the opportunity to lead this program at the university. "I am incredibly excited to return to our roots with the addition of the Honors College program," said King. "The Heman Sweatt Honors College will provide a curated academic experience for students seeking to challenge themselves above the traditional academic experience."

The emerging Heman Sweatt Honors College is designed to be a hub of intellectual activity and innovation. The inaugural class will consist of about 20-25 students selected from across the nation. They will begin their semester with a tailored orientation for their new academic endeavor and their four-year experience of curated learning and leading.

“The launch of the Heman Sweatt Honors College is part of the Bold and Audacious Vision, that re-invigorates a long tradition of the institution’s academic prowess,”said Wiley University’s 17th President & CEO Herman J. Felton, Jr., Ph.D., J.D. “Wiley University is the home of the Great Debaters, who historically modeled the type of academic leadership and participation this program will celebrate. We aim for this learning community to invite students to explore, engage, and excel in a uniquely seminal experience that brings long-lasting skills, curiosity, and career excellence.”

This transformative initiative will provide some of the institution’s brightest minds with a specialized learning community emphasizing leadership, innovation, and research. By fostering an additional community of scholars dedicated to academic excellence and leadership, the institution aims to cultivate the next generation of global leaders who will profoundly impact the campus, their professional industries, and surrounding communities.

The Heman Sweatt Honors College will welcome its inaugural cohort this upcoming fall semester. Applications are currently being accepted, and prospective students are encouraged to apply immediately.
