Attending the AfroTech Conference proved to be an enriching and transformative experience for both faculty and students from Wiley University. This groundbreaking event serves as a vital platform to engage with some of the brightest minds in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship within the Black community.

The conference underscored the power of diversity in driving innovation and provided opportunities to connect with professionals redefining the tech industry. Dr. Hill, a Wiley University professor, reflected on the immense value of the event:

"As an educator, I found immense value in the discussions our students had with representatives from leading companies such as Amazon, Apple, and Grammarly. They explored strategies for success, the importance of networking, and the significance of representation. These insights will undoubtedly enhance my ability to mentor and prepare students for a future in this dynamic field. I’m grateful to Wiley University and Texas Southern University for providing this opportunity to our students, allowing them to gain knowledge they can apply both now and in their futures."

The students’ experiences at AfroTech showcased the power of exposure and networking. Christian Brookins shared their perspective:

"My experience at AfroTech was amazing, one I’ll never forget. From exploring cutting-edge AI technology to engaging with over 50 companies in the Expo Hall, the opportunities were endless. I was in awe of the atmosphere and inspired by the story of AfroTech’s CEO, who took a leap of faith to build a thriving platform. Networking with representatives from companies like Apple and Grammarly prompted me to update my LinkedIn and create a Handshake account, opening doors to new opportunities. I’m incredibly thankful to Wiley, TSU, and Dr. Hill for giving me this chance."

Another Wiley University student, Trey, echoed the sentiments of excitement and inspiration:

"My experience at AfroTech was great! I had the chance to network with representatives from companies like Netflix, Google, and PlayStation. I loved how the event brought the community together, creating a sense of unity and support among the Black tech community. It’s empowering to know we have this kind of support and can continue to build together."

AfroTech exemplifies the importance of fostering diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. This conference not only inspired the participants but also strengthened Wiley University’s commitment to preparing students for success in technology and innovation.

Through this experience, the Wiley University community has returned empowered to share what they’ve learned and continue building a legacy of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
