Wiley University Mourns the Passing of Board of Trustees Emeritus Warren A. Scott

MARSHALL, Texas - Wiley University mourns the loss of Wiley University Board of Trustees Emeritus Warren A. Scott ‘65. Trustee Scott transitioned on Thursday, July 18th, 2024. 

Trustee Scott was a dedicated graduate, servant and advocate of Wiley University, and served on the institution’s Board of Trustees for more than three decades. 

Throughout his many years of service to the institution, Mr. Scott has served as a Board of Trustee member and officer for more than three decades. Some of his major contributions include: established and served as the President of the Delaware Wiley Club; has consistently been a major donor to the institution; served as a fundraising captain for the Class of 1965 and various other campaigns. He was also a life member of the Wiley University National Alumni Association. 

Trustee Scott is survived by his first wife Laurice Mosley and from this union, his daughter Hellena Scott-Okafor (Fidelis) was born. In Wilmington, Delaware, Warren welcomed his daughter, Cheryl R. Petty and son, Luke Paul-Scott (Kelsey). He also gained a sister, Bertina Duncan. In 2004, Warren married his wife Dr. Valerie Jean Gilliam and gained three stepdaughters: Heather Henderson, Holly Henderson-Smith (Damon), and Hali Anderson (Brian). Later, Warren welcomed his grandchildren: Ebony, Chinyere, Lauren, Emeka, Re’Ann-Alyce, Sutton, Weston, Zoey, Zaden, Ziggy, Jalen, and Jackson. His godsons include Dr. Jason Calhoun, Jarvis Scott, and Jamie Duncan. 

Trustee Scott was known for his intellect, quick wit and his love of Wiley University. He will continue to live on in our hearts, and will forever remain a beloved member of the Wiley University family. 

Memorial services for Trustee Scott will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Canaan Baptist Church, located at 3011 New Castle Ave, New Castle, DE 19720. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Evan W. Smith Funeral Services.
