Marshall, TX – Wiley University is proud to honor the extraordinary life and legacy of Ms. Blanche Ingram ’45, a distinguished alumna who recently celebrated her 100th birthday. In recognition of her centennial milestone and her exceptional contributions to education, science, and society, Wiley University has officially proclaimed March 15, 2025, as Blanche Ingram Day.
Ms. Blanche Ingram is a proud graduate of Wiley College (now Wiley University), where she began a lifelong journey of academic excellence and trailblazing leadership. She went on to earn an advanced degree in Chemistry from Cornell University—an accomplishment that broke barriers and opened doors for future generations of African American women in the sciences. She was married to Attorney J. Jack Ingram ‘42, now deceased, whom she met at Wiley University.
Her remarkable career included a tenure with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), where she made significant contributions to scientific research and public service. Throughout her life, Ms. Ingram has exemplified the values of perseverance, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to community.
“Blanche Ingram represents the very best of Wiley University,” said Dr. Herman J. Felton, Jr., President and CEO of Wiley University. “Her story is one of brilliance, boldness, and boundless impact. It is only fitting that we honor her legacy with a day in her name, so generations to come may draw inspiration from her example.”
In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Ingram has been a pillar of her community in Washington, D.C., and Gaithersburg, Maryland. Her enduring love and partnership with her late husband, Jack Ingram, was a testament to family, legacy, and shared purpose.
Wiley University invites the broader community to join in celebrating the life and legacy of Blanche Ingram—a centenarian whose journey continues to inspire.
