MARSHALL, Texas — A recent study from the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) reaffirms the significant economic contributions of Wiley University. Through the production and consumption of various goods and services by Wiley University’s faculty, employees, and students, this institution acts as a catalyst for economic growth locally and regionally. This dynamic creates a ripple effect, leading to increased employment opportunities, heightened economic expansion, and a flourishing community environment.

According to the report, Wiley University generates $24.2 million in total economic impact for its local and regional economies. This estimate includes direct spending by the university on faculty, employees, academic programs, and operations, as well as spending by students, along with the follow-on effects of that spending. Every dollar spent by Wiley University and its students produces positive economic benefits, generating $1.28 million in total spending for its local and regional economies. Wiley University generates 252 jobs for its local and regional economies. Of this total, 132 are on-campus jobs and 120 are off-campus jobs. For each job created on campus, another 0.9 public- and private-sector jobs are created off campus because of Wiley University-related spending. Each $1 million initially spent by Wiley University and its students creates 13 jobs.

“Wiley University plays a major role in the economy of our community. The institution impacts not only our students’ lives by facilitating social mobility through intellectual pursuits and career readiness, but also the community through its incredible economic impact, reflected Dr. Tashia L. Bradley, Wiley University's Chief Operating Officer and the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Wiley University 2021 graduates, due to the impact of a college degree, can expect total earnings of $366.7 million—that’s 78% more than they could expect to earn without their college credentials. Viewed individually, a Wiley University graduate working full-time throughout their working life can expect to earn $1,231,025 in additional income due to a college credential. "HBCUs change lives. For over 150 years, Wiley University has offered an affordable and accessible, high-quality learning experience that has increased opportunities for our graduates. It is exciting to now also communicate our economic impact on the communities we are a part of and serve.” Dr. Tashia L. Bradley, Wiley University Chief Operating Officer and the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
