MARSHALL, Texas - Wiley University is thrilled to announce the 2024 President’s Opening Convocation, scheduled for Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the Julius S. Scott, Sr. Chapel. This year’s event will celebrate "Women Who Lead" and feature an address by Dr. Dietra Trent, Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

The President’s Opening Convocation serves as the formal start of the academic year, and an official introduction for new students to tradition and excellence at Wiley University. Dr. Trent, a distinguished leader with over twenty-five years of experience in advancing equity and education for underserved populations, will deliver an insightful address on the significant role of women in achieving educational excellence at HBCUs. “Wiley University is pleased to host Dr. Trent, for one of our most time-honored traditions, the opening convocation. Dr. Trent is an exemplar of our theme ‘Women Who Lead’ and is an advocate for students attending HBCUs. It is an honor to host one of the nation’s outstanding leaders.” - President & CEO Herman J.
