The Office of Student Activities is committed to student involvement and the co-curricular life of the college. We are actually a blending of many areas of campus life including; community / volunteer services; fraternity and sorority life; leadership programs; scheduling; organization and individual funding; programming, and club and organization services. Our goals are simply to provide quality programs and services to the college community.

We are glad you found us. Our office is dedicated to enhancing the quality of your college experience through student involvement, growth, and learning. Student Activities is committed to providing quality programs and services to the entire College family including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. Ultimately we attempt to promote respect, cultural diversity, and citizenship in our students by heightening their intellectual, cultural, physical, and social development.

Mission:

The Office of Student Activities is guided by the college’s commitment to learning as well as a dedication to character and social development. We strive to enhance the social, intellectual, cultural, and physical development of our students by providing learning opportunities through leadership and campus involvement. Participation in campus life activities enables students to develop competencies in organizational and leadership development, an appreciation for a multicultural community, and a respect for diversity in its truest form.

What’s the U?

The ‘U’ is not an average place, it’s Unique. The ‘U’ houses the Office of Student Activities, The Student Organization Suite (S.O.S.), and the Student Government Association, and the Student Union Advisory Board.

At the ‘U’, you can play ping-pong, pool, or air hockey in the Recreation room. You can even interact with the Nintendo Wii, X box 360, and more video games in the game room. The ‘U’ is the place to view what’s happening on-campus, off campus, and what the clubs/organizations are hosting on the Information Board. Students also have an opportunity to have an evening snack or meal at the Wildcat Den. They can even complete homework or surf the web in the Cyber Cafe’. So the ‘U’ is all about you!! We’ll see C U @ the U!

Get Involved

When you get involved you will discover that a great education is not the only thing Wiley College has to offer. There are a number ways to get involved with Student Activities through clubs, organizations, Student Government Association, or through the Student Union Advisory Board. Participating in student groups and getting involved is an excellent way to engage with the Wiley Community.

Becoming involved with various on-campus groups can allow you to grow in ways you never thought possible, particularly in the area of student leadership.

The 138th anniversary will establish a new Homecoming experience for Wiley College students, graduates and friends, showcasing the best of the academic and cultural resources while creating an alumni reunion feel to this annual event.

The week of October 31st – November 6th is scheduled to be full of fun activities. Homecoming at Wiley College is anything but average .During this week you can see the parade, watch the homecoming volleyball and basketball games, be apart of Student Union Game night, laugh until you cry during the comedy show, and dance the night away the annual homecoming dance.

Student Government Association

The student body of the College is organized and represented by the Student Government Association (SGA). Its officers are elected by students, who in turn represent the student body.

The purpose of the SGA is to cooperate with administration and faculty on behalf of student life, serve as the agent of student body thought and opinion, assist with student activities, and promote College loyalty and devotion. The chief student body representative is the President of the Student Government Association.

The SGA is comprised of the Executive Council and the Class Officers.

The Student Government Association is located in the Student Center of the Fred T. Long Student Union Building. For more information contact the Office of Student Activities at 903-927-3261.

Student Union Advisory Board

The Student Union Advisory Board is established to provide students, faculty, and staff with activities, programs and services to be offered through the Fred T. Long Student Union or the ‘U’. The SUAB represents the College community to ensure that the facilities, services, and amenities offered by the Student Union meet the needs and interests of their constituents.

The Student Union Advisory Board (SUAB) welcomes any interested student to become a member and/or representative.

Services

  • Student Union
    • Beauty Salon and Barber Shop - located on the ground floor, services are provided by licensed professionals. Appointments required.
    • Bookstore - the function and purpose of the bookstore is to make available necessary tools for the education of students and to provide services to faculty and staff.
    • Bowling Lanes - Wildcat Lanes is a two-lane bowling alley for experienced bowlers or those who are playing for the first time.
    • Cafeteria—located on the first floor of the building, cafeteria is the one place students are guaranteed a healthy and balanced diet essential to physical well-being.
    • Cyber Café - this area houses computer terminals that provide easy access for students to surf the web during their down time.
    • Health Services - Hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the nurse is on call after 5:00 p.m. and on weekends.
    • Postal Services - Each student must have an assigned mailbox in order to receive mail at Wiley College. Boxes may be requested from the Post Office.
    • Radio Station - KBWC “Wildcats” 91.1 FM. owned and operated by Wiley College, plays Gospel, Contemporary Jazz, Hip-Hop & R&B, Blues, Old-School, and Reggae music 24 hours a day. Located on the 2nd floor, office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
    • Recreation Room - Open from 3:00 - 11:00 p.m. daily, the Recreation Room houses billiards (pool), ping pong, air hockey, board games and much more.
    • Student Organization Suite - designed to provide office space for student organizations, the SOS serves as the working area for students who are busy about the work of their organizations. Laptop computers, WiFi and printing/copying services are available.
    • Video Game Room - Give your brain a break from the textbooks and enjoy friendly competition on a Wii, Play Station or X Box. Students are welcome to play anytime between 3:00 - 11:00 p.m. daily.
      • Wildcat Den - Take an opportunity to gather with friends, take study breaks, hang out, relax and unwind after a hard day of classes and activities. You might as well order a hamburger while you wait for everyone to arrive.
